About the Network

Welcome to the System iNetwork! The System iNetwork is a comprehensive collection of resources for System i professionals brought to you by Penton Technology Media, publisher of these fine magazines and many more:

Membership levels

The System iNetwork has three membership levels: ProVIP, Professional, and Associate. It's easy to become an Associate Member (and it's FREE). Just fill out a short form providing us with some demographic information. We will not share your individual personal information with any third party without your express written permission, and we do not give out phone, fax, or e-mail information under any circumstances (read privacy policy)! Associate Members have access to some areas of the System iNetwork, including the discussion forums.

Professional Members have access to most of the Network, including special tutorials and guides, extra technical articles on the Web, the digital edition of System iNEWS, and more.

ProVIP Members have access to the entire System iNetwork, including the System iNEWS Database — an archive of all articles published in the magazine and on the Web since January 1995. ProVIP Members also have access to all System iNEWS code published since 1992 and the AS/400 e-Developer archives. Please note that if you are a subscriber to System iNEWS magazine, you may already be a ProVIP Member! Click here to find out how to log in.

A ProVIP Membership costs $149/year (add $50 shipping outside the U.S. and Canada). ProVIPs receive ALL benefits assigned to Professional and Associate Members, PLUS:

  1. Why should I join the System iNetwork?
    To save time, work smarter, consolidate resources, and network with the most knowledgeable experts in the industry. If you are an AS/400-iSeries-System i professional, the System iNetwork has all of the tools you need to stay on top of the platform. We dare you to find a more comprehensive resource than the print and Internet products of the System iNetwork!


  2. Who benefits from the System iNetwork?
    The Network has strategic advice and technical how-to information for all System i professionals, including IS managers, IBM Business Partners and ISVs, consultants, developers, system operators, and network and database administrators. If making the most of the System i is an important part of your job, the System iNetwork is for you!


  3. How much does it cost to join the System iNetwork?
    There are three types of memberships in the System iNetwork: ProVIP, Professional and Associate.
    • ProVIP Members receive full benefits, including System iNEWS magazine and access to magazine articles and code online. ProVIP Memberships cost $149/year (add $50 shipping outside the U.S. and Canada).
    • Professional Membership is $29/year and includes access to most of the Network, including special tutorials and guides, extra technical articles on the Web, the digital edition of System iNEWS, and more.
    • Associate Membership in the System iNetwork is free. Associate Members must complete a Member Profile. At that point, Associate Members receive access to unrestricted areas of the Network and subscriptions to e-mail newsletters of their choice.

  5. How do I log in?
    ProVIP and Professional Members can log in to the System iNetwork for the first time with the following
    • your member number
    • the universal password "iseriesnetpro"

    Your customer number is on your mailing label as illustrated above. Your temporary password is "iseriesnetpro," but after you log in, you'll be prompted to select your own password and to fill out your member profile.

    If you do not currently subscribe to System iNEWS magazine, go to http://www.SystemiNetwork.com/join and follow the instructions to join, or call (800) 793-5714 or (970) 203-2894..

    Upon logging in for the first time using the above information, you will be prompted to choose your personal password. From that point on, you will be identified by "cookie" technology; meaning you can access the System iNetwork from the same computer and browser without providing your password information and gain full access immediately. Please note: In order to log in from a different computer and/or browser, you will have to log out of the other machine. You may only log in to the System iNetwork from one computer at a time.

  2. How do I access the System iNEWS archives online?
    The System iNEWS article archive contains all articles published in System iNEWS magazine and at www.SystemiNetwork.com since January 1995. If you are a ProVIP Member, you will have access to both archives once you've logged in to the System iNetwork. The archives are found in the "Tech Center" area of the System iNetwork.
         Access to the System iNEWS archives and code repository is available only to ProVIP Members of the System iNetwork.


  3. What savings am I entitled to as part of my membership?
    ProVIP Members receive a 25% discount on most book purchases, and substantial savings on e-learning classes and self-paced training courses as well. These discounts and totals do not include shipping charges or taxes where applicable; those will be added after the discount is factored.

    The System iNetwork's e-mail newsletters are available only to members. If you are currently receiving one of these newsletters, you will continue to receive them for a grace period. We encourage you to join the System iNetwork and renew your FREE newsletter subscriptions at your earliest convenience.
